The Diversity Immigrant Visa program is an annual Department of State program for eligible people from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. Entering the Lottery
Follow the current year’s official Diversity Visa instructions. Eligibility can depend on country of chargeability, education or qualifying work experience, accurate biographical information, and compliance with photograph and entry rules. Multiple entries for the same person in one registration period can result in disqualification, although eligible spouses may each submit their own entry and list the other spouse.
Selection Is Not a Visa
Selection only allows the person to continue to the application stage. The applicant must still establish eligibility, complete the required forms and documents, pass security and medical screening, and obtain a visa or adjustment approval before the program year’s statutory deadline. Visa numbers are limited and selection does not guarantee an interview or approval.
Protect Yourself From Fraud
The Department of State does not send a letter or email announcing that someone has won. Entrants check status themselves through the official Entrant Status Check using the confirmation number. After Selection
The correct path depends on whether the applicant processes through a U.S. consulate or may qualify to adjust status in the United States. Criminal history, prior immigration violations, admissibility issues, family changes, document problems, and timing can affect the case. Do not make irreversible travel or employment decisions based only on selection.
